(Not-so) Short Story: "Power Within; Power Without"

OOC Note: This starts on Wednesday, January 28th, around 11:00. Also this turned out waaaay longer than I thought it would.

Tonight's the night....

The brown haired boy looked apprehensive as he tried to search out a reasonably private section in the forest on Duel Academy Island. Despite Onni's best efforts, he could never be sure if another student - or something else entirely - had crept into the woods after curfew. With him was the standard things you'd expect any Duel Academy student to carry with them at all times: A holster for his deck, a standard-issue Academy Duel Disk, and a PDA. However, Onnifuji had one thing that other students most likely did not: a book he had found in the library, containing ancient methods of summoning strange and powerful creatures in one hand, and in the other, a box of materials that he had gathered from various locations around the island.

He hoped that they would be enough.

Whether or not what I'm doing is the wisest course of action... I have to do this. I can't just sit idly by because I'm too weak anymore. He let his body seek out a fitting spot on its own as memories washed over him, looking back to a meeting in the forest with a crimson-horned entity, looking down at Onni to explain the way he had now sought out -

"Sponsorship." Gren Maju Da Eiza had told him. "Gain the favor of a Duel Spirit or entity that agrees with your causes, which may result in granted powers, or even fusion with the entity." Onni had figured out what he would do... he would summon the Duel Spirit he wanted to gain the favor of, and see if he could gain powers from him. He had to do something, because of what happened... because of Desdemona.

Upon bringing that name up, confused, conflicted emotions washed over him. Respect. Fear. Anger. Sadness. Confusion. Alexandra had told him that Desdemona - Black Rose Dragon - and her kind wanted Alexandra dead because she was something... Dark Signers..? The end of the world...? Onni still didn't understand everything fully... but he knew that the other to deaths - Angelina and Shiroko - were related to Desdemona and her kin as well. Onni pulled himself out of his memories, surprised to find that he had picked out a clearing in the forest that would suit what he was trying to do. He pulled out his PDA and looked at the time.

11:30.

I wasted too much time getting here. I'll need to work fast if I'm to get this done.

Onni silently put down the box and took out what he would need - a few candles, a diagram of how the summoning circle should be laid out that he had traced out of the book, and a couple pieces of chalk, to outline the circle. He pulled out the diagram and looked at it for a moment, before grasping a hilt at his side and drawing forth a sword - a gift from Jin, before he was sent to jail. He carefully examined the how the circle was laid out before putting his sword into the ground and carving out a niche through the grass and ground beneath. Working diligently but as quick as he would allow himself, completing the circle - and the basis for the runes within the circle.

Onni grabbed the chalk then and drug it through the outlines the he had made. Being once again careful, yet quick. Once that was done, he took out the four candles, placing them at even intervals around the circle. He then walked carefully toward the center rune, pulling out a card from his deck and setting in there. Backing away once he was done, he checked his PDA.

11:50.

"Alright.. let's see how I should go about this..." He flipped open the book and turned to a bookmarked page. "After making sure the catalyst - with some connection to the creature being summoned - was in place, summoners would often invoke an extended phrase of their own creation, almost always including the creature's name... alright then." Onni closed the book and put it aside with the rest of the stuff, standing straight-up and strong as he gathered his wits for a phrase of his own. He looked at his PDA again.

11:57. He'd Holding has hands out straight at his sides, he started.

"The burning light of a warrior's spirit is never extinguished, even in the throes of death..."

His arms moved higher.

"These fallen spirits coalesce, to fuel an armor fit for a god!"

Higher even.

"To form the ultimate warrior, created from living armor! The immortal host of those fighting spirits!"

His arms reached up, straight toward the black star-lit sky.

"Arise...."

He brought his hands down swiftly, pointing both toward the circle.

The PDA beeped and signaled midnight.

"GIGANTECH FIGHTER!"

...Silence.

Onni held his ground.... and the candles suddenly burst into flame. He dropped his hands down to their sides as they did. A breeze stirred, picking up force as the candles' flames flitted in the breeze. The air around Onni seemed to grow heavier, as if there was something different about the area, the hairs on Onni's neck stood up, as if expecting something, a staticy feeling suddenly surged all around, a crackle and a snap within the circle produces spontaneous electricity, which leaps out, barely avoiding from scorching the trees on the edge of the clearing, before it gathered together and suddenly spread out into a huge shape, molding itself in this dimension as it appeared.

A golden form started to take shape, molded and supported by brilliant blue crystals socketed in the massive gauntlets, on top of the broad shoulders that formed, one in the middle of his large chest and one right beneath where the ribs should've ended. The ground shook as a foot formed and stomped the earth, nearly cracking apart the summoning circle as it did, and a serious expression looked down at Onni from behind a pair of bright green glasses.

"I am Gigantech Fighter, born of invincible living armor. who has invoked the summoning rituals of old and summoned me here?"

Onni was speechless for a moment, amazed that the ritual had worked. He quickly dropped down to one knee, not making contact. "I-I did, Gigantech. I, Faitayuu Onnfuji, invoked the ancient summoning spell to call you here to request.. a favor.

Gigantech face seem to slack, the scowl not as fierce. "A favor..? From a human?"

"T..that's right, Gigantech-san." Onni didn't make eye contact. "You see... there has been multiple strange things happening here. Several students have been... killed-"

"By what?"

"D-dragons, specifically, one of them is.. Black Rose Dragon, I believe."

Gigantech seemed taken aback. "...Black Rose... one of the Five God Dragon's generals?"

"I'm not sure.. it could be. She and some of her kin have murdered at least three students that I know of... those three have since revived."

"How?"

"Unknown, but they've revived... thing is... I want to know what is going on, I only know part of the story and...."

"And?"

"...I wish to possibly take revenge on Black Rose for attacking and killing my friend, if she was in the wrong for it."

"..So, you wish to have my power to do the right thing."

"...Yes."

"Hm..." Gigantech put a massive hand up to his chin, thinking. "...Hold out your hand."

Onni did so without hesitation, and Gigantech grasped it with his own. The blue gem on the gauntlet lit up, and Onni immediately felt an almost electric surge through his body, his head throbbed, his body suddenly ached, and he thought he could hear voices deep inside him.

"An interesting case this one, Gigantech."

"Yes, yes! Quite an interesting one indeed!"

As suddenly as he had felt the surge, it was gone, and Gigantech stared long and hard at him.

"...Stand up, Faitayuu Onnifuji."

Onni stood.

"The spirits of warriors long past have judged you, and have reported to me with what they have found in your mind, body, and soul. You have the spirit and the head to be a warrior, however, you believe your body could not be a physical match for those that you wish to face. They say you fight for your friends, and even for yourself. Wishing to help others. This is a very difficult decision, and you are the first human I have ever had request for the ability to use my power... These spirits say that you are worthy of power, but that it would be dangerous to put my full power in your hands at once. As much as your spirit makes me glad to know that among humans, the way of the warrior is not yet forgotten, I am inclined to agree. Therefore..."

Gigantech walked out of the circle, putting a massive gauntlet on Onni's head. Onni gasped as he felt... something, surge through him. He could feel himself enveloped in cold metal, and yet even as that encased him near fully, a warmth seemed to spread from his hands and chest... filling his entire body. He could feel it strain, and then subside. Onni then realized he was looking through a visor of sorts, green in color, staring back at Gigantech.

"I have granted you my armor, and it has molded to your own shape.. you do not have all of my power. You will be able to tap into it as you yourself grow stronger, further power lies hidden... but this armor is yours. I grant it to you, and support the cause that you fight for - your friends, and for the right decision. You seem to begin to understand that 'right' and 'good' aren't always the same things.. but you'll have to be the one to make the conclusions on the matter involving the Five God's generals. I know little about the situation, so I put it in your hands, Faitayuu Onnifuji."

Onni was speechles... his voice came out strangely as he tried to get used to the feeling of the armor. "Th...thank you Gigantech!"

"The glasses will store the armor when you do not need it, I suggest you keep them around often. Gigantech's hand slipped off - or rather through - Onni's head. "Ah, but it seems my time in this world is short. You and I are linked together now, Faitayuu Onnifuji. Your power is mine, and mine is yours. Take care, and be careful with it." And with that last note, Gigantech slipped away into nothing, the candles suddenly extinguished.

And Onni looked down at himself, in his Ra Yellow uniform instead of the armor Gigantech had given him, confused, he looked around. Did it work...? He felt something in his jacket pocket poke at him, something that wasn't there before, he tentatively pulled it out.

It was a pair of bright green glasses.

Onni looked at them in amazement, before he pulled out his PDA and looked at the time.

12:15.

He smiled to himself. Thank you, Gigantech. I won't let your gift go to waste. Onni scrubbed out the chalk lines with his foot, picked up his book and box, and walked out of the clearing in silence, pocketing the glasses as he walked out of the clearing.
