[ It probably doesn't come as a surprise to many that the city is still up in arms about the attack from two weeks ago. Reports constantly flood the news, alongside press conferences. The fact that many people are having to open their eyes to the fact that Domino is just one part of a much, much bigger world has caused a lot of uproar. One of the many groups caught in that uproar has been OOPARTS.
Onni's firey red hair - tapered into acceptability and wearing a black business suit, sits at a press desk surrounded by microphones. His lips are pursed tightly - anyone can see that he's not happy.
It seems like the conference has been going a while... ]
...Finally, with regards to the events of two weeks ago at the Duel Festival and OOPARTS' culpability. The attack during the event conducted in the city by Leo Corporation and Kaibacorp featured private security employed by the two companies overseeing the event and making sure no tampering or sabotage occured within the event grounds, with OOPARTS playing a 'reserve' role in case of an attack. OOPARTS' own officers suspected there was a possibility for an attack, due to the visibility of the Duel Festival matching that of the infamous World Riding Grand Prix years prior.
Upon confirmation that an attack was underway, OOPARTS requested permission to send officers equipped to handle supernatural threats into the event zone, but were denied due to the reports of the attackers being human, not supernatural in nature. After a lengthy internal review of the events that occurred over the past two weeks, OOPARTS confirms that the attackers were human. Though supernatural powers of any individuals involved remains unconfirmed at this time, we see no reason, at this juncture, to deny Mr. Akaba Reiji's claim of extra-dimensional terrorism on the city.
In addition, OOPARTS was rapidly mobilized shortly after the appearance of the massive unknown mechanical anomaly, later identified by the Industrial Illusions' database as 'Chaos Ancient Gear Giant'. OOPARTS officers worked quickly to assist emergency responders in evacuating districts outside of the event zone that suffered massive damage in the wake of the anomaly's attack, as well as coordinating efforts to neutralize the anomaly and prevent further damage to the city from inside the event grounds.
[There's a flurry of camera flashes and reporters shouting over each other as Onni remains stoic in the face of the cameras. A question over 'what will you do now?' manages to be heard over the din.]
In the coming weeks, OOPARTS will be studying the aftermath of the attack to see if there are any ways we can help prevent something of this catastrophic nature in the future. In addition, we will be reaching out to work with related parties to find the source of these attacks and bring them to justice. OOPARTS was founded on the idea of protecting ourselves from the supernatural and extra-dimensional, and is committed, above all else, to protecting Domino City, a notable landing ground from supernatural and extra-dimensional threats.
[Onni stands up to leave as the reporters try to follow, he puts a hand up as he's walking away.]
This conference is over! No further questions at this time!

That could have been infinitely worse than it was, I suppose.

But I can't blame you when apparently WE WEREN'T FUCKING CONTACTED TO BEGIN WITH.

I would like NOTHING MORE than to do my job!
no subject
You better, because with the money we spend on you, I could be buying a flying train, Onni.
Make sure this doesn't happen again, OOPARTS isn't supposed to look incompetent, even if you leveled up from the shittiest character class possible.
no subject
I'm gonna try and pull some contacts, ask around, see if there's anything we can do. I'm gonna maybe spend some more time on those little... 'side-projects' we discussed. The ones that are currently eating up space in an underground garage versus eating up R&D budget.
If I have to personally stake out a spot in Akaba Reiji's office to get some explanations, I will.
no subject
And we'll see, if you can bring in a massive new cash flow I might be willing to back your dumb side projects.

Luckily the Duel Guards are pretty multi-purpose and can be retrofitted easily if that market implodes on itself.

...That's said Onnidiot rolls off the tongue more. If I have to pick one.

Okay, because it's the bigger hashtag online.

This Academia attack has pretty much permanently put the cat out of that bag, for good. So of course OOPARTS is taking some heat for it given our stance and how blindsided we were. There's no way to cover this one up outside of some crackpot mass hypnotism/memory erasure.
no subject
Personally, thought we hit past that when monsters became solid in Japan...

An attack by a giant mechanized abomination that was only identified by Industrial Illusions' database? That's a much harder thing to ignore.
Anyway, I'm glad someone thinks I did a good job, because lord knows I'm tired of talking and like to take some action. Guess this Reiji fellow's beaten me to the punch though.

Doesn't this make OOPARTs all the more necessary, actually?

Go check the news about the government. Apparently, they're predicting collapse of the current cabinet and snap elections, from what I'm hearing.
The only people mostly looking clean out of all this is KaibaCorp.
Who's apparently using the good will to ramrod a "You Need a Duel Disk to live in Domino" bill through the local government.
no subject
Not that I'm surprised about the bill Kaibacorp's trying to push. Ideally it doesn't take, but I'm not really sure what the solution is these days. This was a pretty big disillusionment of the whole OOPARTS system.
no subject
Apparently Kaiba's been trying to enforce it for years, no one knows *why*.
