[ It probably doesn't come as a surprise to many that the city is still up in arms about the attack from two weeks ago. Reports constantly flood the news, alongside press conferences. The fact that many people are having to open their eyes to the fact that Domino is just one part of a much, much bigger world has caused a lot of uproar. One of the many groups caught in that uproar has been OOPARTS.
Onni's firey red hair - tapered into acceptability and wearing a black business suit, sits at a press desk surrounded by microphones. His lips are pursed tightly - anyone can see that he's not happy.
It seems like the conference has been going a while... ]
...Finally, with regards to the events of two weeks ago at the Duel Festival and OOPARTS' culpability. The attack during the event conducted in the city by Leo Corporation and Kaibacorp featured private security employed by the two companies overseeing the event and making sure no tampering or sabotage occured within the event grounds, with OOPARTS playing a 'reserve' role in case of an attack. OOPARTS' own officers suspected there was a possibility for an attack, due to the visibility of the Duel Festival matching that of the infamous World Riding Grand Prix years prior.
Upon confirmation that an attack was underway, OOPARTS requested permission to send officers equipped to handle supernatural threats into the event zone, but were denied due to the reports of the attackers being human, not supernatural in nature. After a lengthy internal review of the events that occurred over the past two weeks, OOPARTS confirms that the attackers were human. Though supernatural powers of any individuals involved remains unconfirmed at this time, we see no reason, at this juncture, to deny Mr. Akaba Reiji's claim of extra-dimensional terrorism on the city.
In addition, OOPARTS was rapidly mobilized shortly after the appearance of the massive unknown mechanical anomaly, later identified by the Industrial Illusions' database as 'Chaos Ancient Gear Giant'. OOPARTS officers worked quickly to assist emergency responders in evacuating districts outside of the event zone that suffered massive damage in the wake of the anomaly's attack, as well as coordinating efforts to neutralize the anomaly and prevent further damage to the city from inside the event grounds.
[There's a flurry of camera flashes and reporters shouting over each other as Onni remains stoic in the face of the cameras. A question over 'what will you do now?' manages to be heard over the din.]
In the coming weeks, OOPARTS will be studying the aftermath of the attack to see if there are any ways we can help prevent something of this catastrophic nature in the future. In addition, we will be reaching out to work with related parties to find the source of these attacks and bring them to justice. OOPARTS was founded on the idea of protecting ourselves from the supernatural and extra-dimensional, and is committed, above all else, to protecting Domino City, a notable landing ground from supernatural and extra-dimensional threats.
[Onni stands up to leave as the reporters try to follow, he puts a hand up as he's walking away.]
This conference is over! No further questions at this time!

That could have been infinitely worse than it was, I suppose.

While I was in the Ettosyliet, a demon named Tartarus approached me. It offered me the power to destroy Eliphas. I was...extremely angry. About what the Astrals had done under Eliphas. To the Barians. To Galaxy-Eyes. To Hope. To everybody that they hurt and abused and got rid of, like the Bujins. I wanted revenge and I didn't trust that they wouldn't do it again. I didn't accept Tartarus' offer initially, but...
...during our duel, I did. And I decided to let you beat me and use that to... [She hesitates and grimaces.] ...make the deal. Tartarus' power let me awaken as a Dark Signer again, but suppress the Earthbound God. Then...I was going to take Yuma's ship, go to the Astral World...and destroy Eliphas. Then I would've either let the Astrals destroy me. Or...come back here, and make Juudai do it.
[She's running her hands up and down her arms and looking away the more she describes it.]
But. Juudai stopped me, and that broke my deal with Tartarus, so...he took my life energy. And that's how I wound up in the coma.

[ It's not... brutal, but it is frank. Onni's not exactly going to dance around the issue. ]
You goaded me into a duel, setting me up to get angry enough to want to wipe the floor with you, and then at the end, you turned Rhongomyiad real enough to actually run you through.
[ He closes his eyes a moment. ]
So that's why all that happened, huh?

...I saw Labrys die when I was in the Ettosyliet. She came back before it was all over. But. It stuck with me. And I couldn't imagine letting it happen again if Eliphas decided to target the Barians.
I'm saying all of this, not as an excuse, but just. To make it clear where my head was at the time. I...thought whatever I did would justify the way I did it and it didn't matter because I wasn't gonna live through the end of it after I accomplished my goal, anyway. And for that...I wound up manipulating you into doing something really horrible.
I wanna apologize for that.

Honestly. I'd probably think the same thing, in that situation. "If I'm not gonna live through it, what's it matter?" So if you think I'm gonna get on some high horse and lecture you about how stupid that was... nah.
[ His hands are gripping tighter onto each other as he sits. ]
But.
You... You really kinda fucked me up, you know. I can't say I've been replaying the scene in my head every day, but every time I do think about it, my stomach turns into knots and I can hardly trust my own judgement. Always trying to figure out if I had done something different, maybe it wouldn't have played out that way.
Actions have consequence, Alex. Even if we don't always live to see what they are. Someone has to live with the shitty choices we make. And... I get it.
I'm never going to forget what happened in that duel. It's probably gonna keep me messed up for a good long while. But it doesn't mean I can't appreciate a genuine apology when I hear one.

I wanted to stop Eliphas. But all I did was hurt a lot of other people instead. And I need to take responsibility for that.
no subject
...But as far as taking responsibility. Did you have something particular in mind? Or had you not gotten that far yet. It's... y'know, okay if you hadn't. I'm not exactly in position to judge.

[ He lets out a sigh. ]
...Look, Alex. I don't know if I'm ever gonna really forgive you for what happened. But... at this point I'm trying to at least get better about letting my emotions autopilot me into shitty decisions.
I doubt I can offer anything Leo Corp's tech and money can't, but if for some reason you need something from me, well. The door's open as long as I'm still the one running OOPARTS. Who knows how long that'll be, but-
[ He scratches at his head absently, nervously. ] Consider it me trying to make whatever amends I can, I guess.

Same as you always do, I suppose. I shouldn't be surprised.
[ He finally stands back up. ]
I guess I can say the same for myself. Ironic as it is, I don't trust anyone who would have kept OOPARTS from doing its job to protect the city. I don't care how noble they think their intentions were.
So while I'm sure everyone's going to be looking toward whatever plan Akaba's got going on. OOPARTS is gonna be doing the thing we always have set out to do - take the fight to the people who threaten us like this on our own terms.
